Retreat to Dartmoor

“Open your heart, quieten your mind, embrace your body.”

‘Retreat to Dartmoor’ offers regular weekly yoga, meditation and mindfulness sessions, day and half day workshops, or weekend long retreats. Whether you have been practising yoga for years, teach yoga (always good to remain a student), or are newly drawn to yoga, we aim to provide inspiration and nourishment for your onward spiritual journey.

Retreat

to go to a quiet, safe place

a period of time to think carefully and rest, away from normal activities and duties

A yoga retreat can be anything from a brief, but beneficial hour, to a few days which provide a deeply nourishing time for us to spend focused on our physical, emotional and mental well being (well some yogis retreat for weeks, months, even years, but most of us don’t have that luxury – or aren’t that brave –  so we’ll gladly settle for what we can). What is essential is that within our busy lives we create time to look after ourselves, to turn inwards and focus on remembering who we really are and what is important for our happiness.

Over the weekend I felt progressively reconnected with my Self, more at ease and relaxed, as well as nourished on a physical, mental and spiritual level. This, together with the delicious, natural food, make these retreats an absolute must!” – Chris P, Southampton

Why Yoga?

Yoga is so much more than what happens on a yoga mat, it is a way of life. Yoga is a series of sign posts guiding you towards a union with your true self. But the great thing about yoga is, you can take whichever sign posts you are ready for right now. If you just want to understand and reach a greater harmony with your body, yoga can help you do that. If you want to quieten your busy mind, yoga can help do that. If you want to live a happier, more loving, fulfilled life, yoga can help you do that too! Amazing, but true, its been practised and proven over thousands of years by yogis in the East and now all over the world.

Why Mindfulness?

Mindfulness gives us an opportunity to be a human being, rather than a human doing. A tool through which to nourish and nurture ourselves, by being completely in our bodies in each moment. Learning to be totally attentive with an activity – whether that is breathing, eating, speaking, listening, walking – allows us to enjoy the full richness of each individual experience. Mindfulness is also about learning to approach ourselves and life with positivity and gratitude. Mindfulness opens our hearts and allows us to feel ourselves and life, more intensely.

Why Meditation?

Meditation helps us to create stillness and peace within our body and mind, helping to provide an opportunity for deep rest where we can be undisturbed, momentarily disconnected from our everyday lives. Connecting fully with the breath and body during meditation, literally calms our nervous system, helping to reduce excessive thinking, agitation and worries. It is in this state of rest, that real insight into ourselves and our lives can arise.

“If you aren’t what you have,
you aren’t what has been added on to you,
and you aren’t what you can see;
Then what are you?
You are love, you are pure bliss consciousness!”
